WVU researchers receive Cancer Institute grants

Five WVU researchers have received funding from the WVU Cancer Institute for their cancer-related pilot projects. Wei Du, MD, PhD, Sijin Wen, PhD, and Traci LeMasters, PhD, were each awarded an American Cancer Society-Institutional Research Grant. The individual grants were part of an American Cancer Society award to WVU in 2016 to support junior faculty members engaged in research at the Cancer Institute. Additionally, Mark Olfert, PhD, was awarded a grant from the Phillip R. Dino Innovative Research Fund and Paul Lockman, PhD, was awarded a grant from the Let the Journey Begin Fund.Read WVU researchers receive Cancer Institute grants full story

WVU graduate student discovers potential target for cocaine- and amphetamine-addiction therapeutics

Between 2010 and 2015, the combined overdose deaths from cocaine and psychostimulants with abuse potential—a drug category that includes methamphetamine, Adderall and Ritalin—equaled the number of overdose deaths from heroin. -

WVU Joins the 5th Midwest Global Health Conference

West Virginia University will be participating in the 5th Midwest Global Health Conference Feb. 24 at the University of Cincinnati. This regional conference is a collaboration of eight institutions, including the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Marshall University, the Pikeville Osteopathic School of Medicine, West Virginia University, and Wright State University.Read WVU Joins the 5th Midwest Global Health Conference full story

WVU Health Sciences Executive Leads the 2017-2018 Oman Medical College Graduation Commencements

For the last 17 years WVU Health Sciences has directly contributed to the development of two major programs, medicine and pharmacy at Oman Medical College in Oman, Middle East. This year the graduation commencements for both Medicine and Pharmacy were led by Dr. Allie Karshenas, AVP of Clinical Research Operations and Institutional Advancemments and the AVP of Global Engagements. More than 84 medical doctors and 90 bachlor’s degree pharmacists were graduated. The graduation ceremonies were broadcasted live from Oman on YouTube.
