  • WVU Heart and Vascular Institute physicians first in state to introduce new therapy for leaking heart valve

    MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A team of physicians at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute became the first in the state to implant a new minimally invasive device for the treatment of a leaking mitral valve, called mitral regurgitation. Three patients who were otherwise unable to undergo open heart surgical repair had the MitraClip device inserted using a catheter by a team that included Vinay Badhwar, M.D., Mohamad Alkhouli, M.D., James Mills, M.D., Wissam Gharib, M.D., and Bradford Warden, M.D.

  • WVU Cancer Institute health educator honored for cancer prevention work

    A WVU Cancer Institute health information specialist who devotes her professional life to sharing her cancer journey to help save the lives of others recently was honored with the 2016 Immunization Advocate Award from the West Virginia Immunization Network. Shelly Dusic, who works for the Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention and Control Division under its West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program grant, was recognized for her work in advocating human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines throughout West Virginia.

  • School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence Award recipients announced
