  • WVU in the News: SPH Assistant Dean Brumage among recipients of "West Virginian of the Year" honor

    Dr. Michael Brumage, assistant dean for public health practice and service, was selected as a West Virginian of the Year for his work battling the opioid epidemic. Brumage has received national recognition for his work in harm reduction and his dedication to fighting this "epidemic of epidemics."Brumage is among 5 recipients honored by the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Other recipients include Dr. Rahul Gupta, the public health commissioner for West Virginia, and Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader. Rader was also featured in the Netflix original documentary short "Heroin(e)", which the School of Public Health screened for the public in November 2017.

  • WVU School of Medicine offers new headache medicine fellowship

    The West Virginia University School of Medicine announced recently that accreditation was granted for a new fellowship program in headache medicine. The fellowship is the only one in the state, and recruitment for the position starts in January 2018.

  • Researcher calls West Virginia's drug overdose death rate increase ‘totally unacceptable’

    A West Virginia University researcher is calling for expanded treatment and a sustainable statewide naloxone distribution program after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report today (Dec. 21), which highlights the mounting public health crisis surrounding drug overdose deaths. The Mountain State continues to have the highest drug overdose death rate in the nation.
