  • Berry named Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry chair

    James Berry, D.O., has been named to lead the WVU School of Medicine’s Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry as the permanent chair, effective May 1, 2020. Berry has served as interim chair for the department since February 2019.

  • CVRP at WVU Eye Institute Receives Award

    Prevent Blindness, the nation’s oldest volunteer eye health and safety organization, has announced the recipient of the “2020 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health” as the Children’s Vision Rehabilitation Program (CVRP) at West Virginia University, which is led by Rebecca Coakley, MA, CVLT.

  • Machine that oxygenates blood may help critically ill COVID-19 patients, according to WVU study

    A new cohort study out of West Virginia University suggests one piece of life-support equipment—an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine—can be especially useful for treating some of these COVID-19 patients. But ECMO may be less helpful for COVID-19 patients who are older, who have preexisting conditions and whose heart function has deteriorated.
